Supporting the independent education community

Discover the benefits of your union membership

As a member, you will discover lots of other benefits that can improve your lifestyle, including opportunities for retail, recreation, travel, health cover and financial benefits.  We are able to negotiate these benefits due to the size of our membership.

The greater the membership strength of the Union, the more benefits we are able to bring to members.  We also continue to source and procure additional membership benefits to complement our existing benefits to further benefit our members both professionally and personally.

There are many benefits of being an IEU member. As well as being entitled to the support of the union on industrial matters, advice on employment issues and the provision of union training our members have access to a range of other services.

Professional representation

The IEU represents the professional interests and concerns of all members at a state and national level, whether they work in a school, early childhood service, English college, business college or other non-government educational institution.

The IEU also provides a range of services to members. Any member with a problem or enquiry should seek immediate assistance from the IEU. Our officers are available to meet personally with members, at the IEU office or at their workplace by appointment.

Phone Sydney (02) 8202 8900, Canberra (02) 6120 1500, Newcastle (02) 4926 9400 or Lismore (02) 6623 4700. Country members can contact the IEU toll free on 1800 467 943.

Industrial protection

Like any union, the IEU exists to protect and advance its members' interests. Every IEU member is entitled to the support of the union on any industrial or professional matter.

IEU officers provide information, advice and representation on all issues affecting employment and working conditions, from dismissals through to salary and payment matters, leave, legal liability and the general rights and responsibilities of teachers and school staff, within the school, centre or college environment.
